Remember last September, when I was frantically helping my youngest adult child, Billie, and their foster son, Z, move into their new house around the corner from ours?The one built into the hill and perched up above the street? And remember how we were scrambling to paint all the walls in the house—how we really had to, because the previous owners were smokers and had lived in that little house for forty years?

Maybe you also remember how, since we had to paint all the walls anyway, we wanted to create forest mural for Z’s bedroom, because he loves our little wilderness cabin so much, and we were worried that he might never see it again, because he might be suddenly sent to live with the out-of-state family member he’d never met? Well, we don’t think that out-of-state move is going to happen anymore. Nothing is certain yet, and I can’t say more until it is. Every day we just keep loving him the best we can and learning how to take care of him better, and, in the end, how to be bette…
