I love your concept of no waste writing and your recycling of older posts. As a student, I need repetition and as a teacher, I am OK with repeating important concepts. And I love people. Hmm... I am still trying to figure out my focus for my Substack. I have way too many interests. But I'm getting closer.
Yayayay! this is so exciting (and deserving.) This made me gasp: "I know the urgency to get work out there, get it seen...But struggling makes it harder." *Chef's kiss!* Thank you for being so inspiring and awesome.
Thank you for the gentle reminder that I don't have to do everything at once! I'm pretty 'all in' when I get the bit between my teeth and have found reason to have not one but three Substacks for different purposes - one creative non-fiction, one supportive/words of wisdom for parent carers, and one coaching/teaching for 'quiet' business owners. Trying to be organic and slow with it all...!
Thank you for this! As a former early childhood educator, I appreciate how you acknowledge the skills we get from teaching kids and applying them when teaching adults! Creating safe spaces for people is vital, and those years with young people really do teach us how to do that.
I’ve been leading and teaching my Write to Heal Retreats and Workshops for the past two years, and I’m excited to start offering them on Substack.
Thank you for sharing this post. I’m more motivated than ever to make my dream a reality.
I say I come to this space with the same excitement, sense of safety, and joy as my first grade self showing up to school saying, “ what do we get to do today?!” And I see the powerful teaching behind it now. What a gift you teachers are!
I love that, Emily. On retreat, people tell me they feel like children again, children in grade school, where you just arrive and settle into the flowing currents of the day. We ring the gong as we move from one thing to the next, and although there is a printed schedule, no one really needs it, because you just follow the flow of the collective, with this, "What do we get to do next?" energy in the movement. There are not many times in our lives where we get to feel like that. For me, grade school was such a safe world, both as a student and a teacher. It is so healing to keep recreating it.
It is pretty amazing to feel it again here as an adult on the daily. Healing, reclaiming forks in the road from the wiser now. The immensity of it is hard to express. It feels like a second chance, but better. Thank you.

Marlee, yes! Bit by bit, we discover our path. xo
The truth is, I am enjoying being a student of language for now.

Wow, thank you, Ariane!

Right, we can do what we can do, on the pace we can do it. More sustainable! xoxo
Loads of great advice here. Thank you!
You're so welcome--and nice to see you, as always!

Thank YOU. For your trust, your heart, your words, and the strong hands you extend to everyone around you. Always grateful!

Go, you, Christine!
