The Bruising And The Mending
A gorgeous first Live Salon + the strange beauty of Halloween + a thing recently created with my "famous" 15-minute timer method + an exquisite corpse poem in gratitude for today
What a beautiful salon.
and I want to share our heartfelt thanks to the 50 writers who came today, and also our congratulations to the 12 who read their incredible work (each piece was stunning in its own way—if you were there, you know this is true!).Below you’ll find two celebrations of our time together:
The collaborative “magic 15-minute timer” piece that Billie and I wrote last night and read to kick off the Salon. I’ll write about the “15-minute timer” method for Wednesday’s Writing Lab post in case any of you want to try it. We ended up writing to the theme of Halloween, but, of course, it’s not about Halloween. We ended up with the working title “The Bruising and the Mending.”
The exquisite corpse piece (or at least, a piece in the style of an exquisite corpse) that Billie quickly cobbled together using fragments from today’s 12 live readings. We only played around a little with Billie’s fast and furious version after the Salon, and are sharing that raw version here.
It’s all…
