🧵 Thursday Thread: Ask Me (Almost) Anything
Memoir & family? Writing across genre? Teaching writing across settings from university to prison? Growing a Substack? "Platform" and social media? Getting published? Day jobs and family? Ask away
I love our community so much, and have grown to feel so close to so many of you, that I often feel as if I know you “in real life.” It’s kind of amazing.
And because of the high level of trust that’s emerged here at Writing in the Dark over the past two years, I’m doing something today that I’ve never done before. I think it might be fun—we’ll see where it goes. The idea is, an ask me anything week—or, I should really say, an ask anything week, because anyone can answer the questions that get posted. I will try to answer as many as I can, as long as I have something of any value to contribute!
Obviously I’m thinking mostly writing related, but if there are other questions you want to ask (e.g., questions about my life in general), I’m open to that. If it’s too personal or hits on something I don’t speak about publicly, I just won’t answer it—no harm done.
I gave some ideas in the header, but there are many more questions you might want to ask that fall outside of those categories, and that’s fine. I’ll be sure, too, to tuck some of these questions away for future Writing in the Dark Lit Salon advice column material.
So go ahead, toss out your questions large and small. And remember, anyone can contribute to the answers, not just me. If we can build a knowledge base, a weaving of expertise, insight, understanding, and perspective here, well, that’s the dream. That’s the dream.
Love,
Jeannine
