I'm pretty sure you were a kick-ass therapist in your previous life because that's what this essay is - therapy that heals. You knocked it out of the park with this one, hitting us in all the feelings in the best possible way, calling us to show up fully in the best possible way while asking us to be gentle on ourselves in the best possible way.

Thank you.

Jeannine, You nailed it! Right here you have expressed the most valuable teaching that a teacher can impart. I came to the place in my creative life that you are urging writers toward a long time ago, first with my visual art practice and later with writing. It takes a long time to unlearn so many assumptions we made about the creative life—especially if you grew up in the 50s and 60s. Hell, maybe in art school today, they still foster the idea of "making it big". After all, our whole culture goes for that crap. When I taught art to pre-school and elementary kids back in the 70s I hoped I was helping them discover their own powers of creation to be built on for the rest of their lives. A great mission, but one which was easily subsumed by their subsequent education, except in rare cases. Bottom line: Thank you, swell teacher, carry on!
