I went to a high school reunion, where a male classmate talked about a dance. We went together, and I have no memory of it.

It's actually soothing to hear I am not the only one with this experience. Also, I just read on Twitter today (and the writer did source the study) that when we are in grief, we produce theta waves in the brain, which are normally only present during sleep. In other words, we sleepwalk. This, too, helps explain the amnesiac quality of deep stress. Maybe that is not what it was for you! But definitely was the situation for me.
